Why do we say sorry..

"Sorry" an expression of regret. (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Regret is an intelligent and emotional dislike for personal past acts and behaviors. Regret is often felt when someone feels sadness, shame, embarrassment, depression or guilt after committing an action or actions that the person later wishes that he or she had not done. Regret is distinct from guilt, which is a deeply emotional form of regret — one which may be difficult to comprehend in an objective or conceptual way. In this regard, the concept of regret is subordinate to guilt in terms of its emotional intensity. By comparison, shame typically refers to the social (rather than personal) aspect of guilt or (in minor context) regret as imposed by the society or culture (enforcement of ethics, morality), which has substantial bearing in matters of (personal and social) honor.

Regret can describe not only the dislike for an action that has been committed, but also, importantly, regret of inaction. Many people find themselves wishing that they had done something in a past situation.

Saying sorry requires a lot of guts. Since it basically involves keeping your pride and ego aside and admitting your mistake to the other person. Sometimes it comes as a pleasant surprise to us when we see a proud and haughty self centered person apologizing to us. And you wonder how could a person like him actually bend or rather blink in the game of one-upmanship. And then you realise that the person values your "friendship" more than anything else. And then your mouth curves into a Smile. I guess life is too short making enemies and holding grudges.

MEANING OF LIFE...

On the first day, God created the dog and said:

'Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years.'

The dog said: 'That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten?'

So God agreed.

On the second day, God created the monkey and said:

'Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span.'

The monkey said: 'Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the Dog did?'

And God agreed.

On the third day, God created the cow and said:

'You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years.'

The cow said: 'That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years.. How about twenty and I'll give back the other forty?'

And God agreed again.

On the fourth day, God created humans and said:

'Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I'll give you twenty years.'

But the human said: 'Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?'

'Okay,' said God, 'You asked for it.'

So that is why for our first twenty years we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family.. For the next ten years we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren.. And for the last ten years we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.

ITS TIME TO SAY BYE...

Many a times in our lives we are faced with the dicey situation of 'letting go' in case of certain fake relationships. Relationships based on lies, where we forgive and make 'n' number of excuses for the behaviour of the person. Maybe because of some amount of fondness for the person, many a times we feel that maybe the person took the decision because of a cruel twist of fate or the decision was governed by destiny. And then when our eyes open we realise that the decision was taken logically - in full possession of ones' senses. And we feel very hurt...
Life is not about people who come to hold your hand when you are happy and gay. Friendship and a deep sense of gratitude is for those people who hold your hand when you are down and out. They hold your hands and gently get you out of the darkness into the bright sunshine. Down the walk of my life looking back, there are a lot of people who hold a special place in my heart. My friends who have stuck to me through thick and thin, my husband who came into my life during a bad phase and was a constant companion and a source of strength, my parents and family who have always been there for me.
As I lay in my bed cursing my fate because of a viral fever, I thought maybe that was God's way of telling me to take rest. I am a workholic who need to be busy doing something or the other. There's no place for rest in my schedule, unless I get too tired.. which I do get many a times. I decided to do the things I don't have the time to do in my routine. As I lay in my bed I mused about my past different experiences - the good, the bad and the funny and had a hearty laugh over my mistakes. Earlier certain events had broken my heart, today i am happy they happened. Like the wise men say' whatever happens is for one's good'. I guess you must learn from your mistakes and move on. I thought about friends and people who I had met in my life earlier and who I have no contact with what so ever now. And hoped.. that since the world is round we will meet again. And finally I realised I hadn't seen television for ages...

Thoughts to ponder on..

I BELIEVE

A Birth Certificate shows that we were born,
A Death Certificate shows that we died.
Pictures show that we lived!
Have a seat . . . Relax . .. . And read this slowly.

I Believe...
Opportunities lost are lost forever as the same opportunities almost never come again
I Believe...
That just because two people argue, doesn't mean they don't love each other.
And just because they don't argue, doesn't mean they do love each other.
I Believe...
That sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry,
but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.
I Believe...
That we don't have to change friends if
we understand that friends change.
I Believe...
That no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.
I Believe...
That true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance.
Same goes for true love.
I Believe...
That you can do something in an instant
that will give you heartache for life.
I Believe...
That it's taking me a long time
to become the person I want to be.
I Believe...
That you should always leave loved ones with
loving words It may be the last time you see them.
I Believe...
That you can keep going long after you think you can't.
I Believe...
That we are responsible for what
we do, no matter how we feel.
I Believe...
That either you control your attitude or it controls you.
I Believe...
That heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.
I Believe...
That money is a lousy way of keeping score.
I Believe...
That my best friend and I can do anything, or nothing, and have the best time.
I Believe...
That sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down, will be the ones to help you get back up.
I Believe...
That maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had, and what you've learned from them....and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated.
I Believe...
That it isn't always enough to be forgiven by others.
Sometimes, you have to learn to forgive yourself.
I Believe...
That no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn't stop for your grief.
I Believe...
That our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are,
but we are responsible for who we become.
I Believe...
That you shouldn't be so eager to find
out a secret. It could change your life Forever.
I Believe..
Two people can look at the exact same
thing and see something totally different.
I Believe..
That your life can be changed in a matter of
hours by people who don't even know you.
I Believe...
That even when you think you have no more to give, if
a friend cries out to you... you will find the strength to help.
I Believe...
That credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.
I Believe...
That the people you care about most in life are taken from you too soon.
I Believe...
The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;
They just make the most of everything..
Thank you God for all the wonderful people who help us throughout the journey of life..
Forgive quickly, love slowly, and live free.

A MESSAGE BY GEORGE CARLIN

GEORGE CARLIN (His wife recently died...)

Isn't it amazing that George Carlin - comedian of the 70's and 80's - could write something so very eloquent...and so very appropriate.

A Message by George Carlin:
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete...

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember, to say, 'I love you' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind..
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

George Carlin

MONSOONS

It was in the air,
They smelt it - the birds, the trees, the animals,
A mysterious scent engulfing us,
Strong winds blowing, the trees bowing,
The dark podgy warriors marching on..
Darkness crept - conquering every inch
Soothing cool breeze massaging every muscle
A ray of light, the drummers began,
Midst nature applauding, chins titled,
Eyes skywards witnessing the annual rendezvous,
The wait was over, it came -
Softly orchestrated at first, till rock took over,
A shiver in the spine, but as hearts opened,
It went on and on and on...
The Monsoons at last took over.

POTATOES

A Kindergarten teacher decided to let her class play a game. The teacher told each child in the class to bring along a plastic bag containing a few potatoes. Each potato will be given a name of a person that the child hates, so the number of potatoes that the child will put in his/ her plastic bag will depend on the number of people he/she hates.
So when the day came, every child brought some potatoes with the name of the people he/ she hated. Some had two potatoes; some 3, while some had upto 5 potatoes.
The teacher then told the children to carry with them the potatoes in the plastic bag wherever they go for 1 week. Day after day passed by, and the children started to complain due to the displeasing smell let out by the rotten potatoes they were carrying.
Those children having 5 potatoes really began to feel the weight of the heavier bags. After 1 week, the children were relieved to hear that the teacher had finally ended the game. The teacher asked, "How did you feel while carrying your potatoes with you for a week?" The children let out their frustrations and started complaining of the trouble that they had to go through having to carry the heavy and smelly potatoes wherever they go.
Then the teacher told them the hidden meaning behind the game. The teacher said, "This is exactly the situation when you carry your hatred for somebody inside your heart. The stench of hatred will contaminate your heart and you will end up carrying an unnecessary burden with you wherever you go".
If you cannot tolerate the smell of rotten potatoes for just 1 week, can you imagine what burden it would be to have the stench of hatred in your heart for your lifetime??

MORAL OF THE STORY
Get rid of any hatred you might have for others in your heart, so that you won't have to carry around unnecessary burden during your lifetime. Forgiving others is the best attitude to take! Love others, even if you don't like them..
